Craigslist Central CA Coast -- 1203A's

I spotted these on Craigslist perhaps 2.5 hours away, and they don't
    quite tempt me.

Altec Lansing Powered Voice of the Theater Speakers Model 1203a

might be the same speakers mentioned in this thread from a couple of
    years ago:

    http://www.hostboard.com/forums/alte...3-1203s-2.html

They might be useful for someone.

What were those meant for? PA? MI?

It would seem anything you might want to do with
    sound reinforcement according to this:

I poked around and couldn't get much sense of the driver's
quality -- they are 4 ohms.

They were for PA use. Not great for Hi-Fi

Drivers were 4 ohms to squeeze a little more power out of cheap amps. Car stereo still does that...they have 2 ohm and even 1 ohm drivers.

Horns usable with fram change from Symbiotik, burn the cabs, flea-bay the MI 15's and amps...

Re: Craigslist Central CA Coast -- 1203A's

Several months ago I bought a pair of 1203s, circa 1967-68, for $250. Someone had replaced the 15" Altecs with 8 ohm JBL d130fs. The original 807s had also been replaced with some 1974 stamped 807-Zs. The amps and crossovers, however, were really toasted (so were the Symbioteks), but I was able to use the drivers successfully in a DIY project.

D130's are decent speakers in the right box. You probably built a nice set with those and the 807 tops.

Haven't played with a D130 in probably close to 40 years but have good memories of them.
